The Canadian Shield is made up of Precambrian rocks. Some rocks are over two billion years old. These rocks are the oldest rocks in North America. The rocks are igneous (like granite), and metamorphic (like marble). The Canadian Shield has experienced many changes to the rocks such as erosion from water. However, the Canadian Shield has survived the changes and has some of the most stable rocks on Earth.
